Proportion of dwellings in need of major repair. This category includes dwellings needing major repairs such as dwellings with defective plumbing or electrical wiring and dwellings needing structural repairs to walls, floors or ceilings.
Methods and Limitations:
The proportion of dwellings in need of major repair refers to dwellings with defective plumbing or electrical wiring and dwellings needing structural repairs to walls, floors or ceilings. It does not include desirable remodelling or additions.
‘Regular maintenance needed’ includes dwellings where only regular maintenance such as painting or furnace cleaning is required.
The ‘minor repairs needed’ category includes dwellings needing only minor repairs such as dwellings with missing or loose floor tiles, bricks or shingles or defective steps, railing or siding.
Prior to 2016, ‘dwelling condition’ was referred to as ‘condition of dwelling.’
