About the Community Foundation

Purpose

Inspiring giving to build a vital community, for everyone.

Community Foundation Story

In 2007, a group of affordable housing advocates met, frustrated with short-term, piecemeal solutions to housing issues, and began searching for a way of working together to create holistic, long-term change in the community. In 2009, with $40,000 and the support of committed local philanthropists, the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough was established. Since then the Foundation and its donors have invested more than $5.5 million in projects that build community vitality, and has attracted over $13 million in endowed and long-term funds. Carefully invested, this growing community asset will serve the City and County of Peterborough for generations to come.

The Community Foundation believes that together, we can build a vital community for everyone. With a long-term view of our community and insight into the challenges and opportunities facing Peterborough, the Community Foundation has the knowledge and the staying power needed to address complex issues, from environmental sustainability to housing and homelessness, from support for the arts to care for those in need.
